Emotions That Arise During Menopause

Menopause causes many changes in middle-aged women. These changes women have to deal with are not limited to: irregular periods, hot flashes, night sweats, trouble sleeping, vaginal dryness, painful intercourse and emotional changes. While you can combat vaginal dryness by taking daily supplements or exercise to rid yourself of hot flashes, other symptoms may be harder to eliminate.

Emotional changes may be more difficult to reduce, due to rapid hormone fluctuations and physical changes. You may experience anxiety, feelings of sadness, irritability, mood swings, lack of motivation, fatigue and difficulty concentrating. There are still ways to diminish emotional changes you may go through.

Depression and Feeling Sad

Women going through menopause are more likely to suffer from depression at this time in their lives. If you are feeling unusually sad for more than two weeks, contact a psychiatrist to seek help for depression.

The Importance of Endorphins

Exercising is an important part of menopausal symptom relief including emotional changes. Menopausal women who can do 30 minutes of moderate exercise tend to feel happier. Endorphins are released while you exercise. These are feel-good hormones creating positive reaction in your brain. Exercise more and feel happier.

More Sleep

If you suffer from mood swings, it may be because of sleep deprivation. Suffering from hot flashes and night sweats can cause women to wake up two to three times every night. Try to get the best sleep that you can. Instead of having your cell phone and laptop close to your bed, leave it on the nightstand. Avoid any caffeine in the evening as well as large meals to help you sleep better.

Eat Healthier

By eating more vegetables, fruits and whole grain, you can feel better. If you eat less sugar and fats, and more lean meats, you can keep a healthy weight, ward off diseases and stabilize your mood. Studies show the more sugar and trans fat people eat, the higher risk they are of suffering from depression. Choosing to eat healthy helps you combat many symptoms menopause deals you.
