As if dealing with vaginal dryness wasn’t enough, menopause has a way of bringing you down with things like fatigue. Your hormones are shifting and causing you to feel exhausted when you used to be full of energy. It becomes harder and harder to complete all your tasks on a daily basis. Sometimes you feel like you could just stay in bed all day.
Your life isn’t supposed to be this way. Don’t let fatigue defeat you. Fight back.
You may think exercise might be counter-productive if you’re suffering from fatigue. Too often people think of exercise as an energy expenditure instead of an energy producer. The truth is women who exercise regularly report higher levels of energy on a daily basis.
Develop a Healthy Sleep Routine
Getting plenty of sleep can is a great way to combat fatigue. Make sure you get up and go to bed at the same times every day. Avoid using stimulants before you go to bed, they can ruin your sleep pattern. You should also avoid using your smart phone or laptop just before bed.
If you feel like you can’t get the sleep you need because of hot flashes or vaginal dryness, try turning the thermostat down. Some studies suggest going as cool as 65°F while you sleep. Getting good sleep is important, especially if you’re going through menopause.
Even after your best efforts, there will be times where the fatigue catches up to you. Taking a quick break is different from admitting defeat. Give your body some time to retreat and regroup. Take deep breaths and don’t allow stress to add to your situation. Once you’ve regained control, launch the counter-attack.
You’re stronger than menopause and its vaginal dryness, fatigue and hot flashes. You may have to adjust some of your habits, but you’ll be better for it.
